HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is: I am upgrading a VAX VMS 6.1 system with Terminal Server (DS200) to VMS 7.2. What do I need during DECNET installation in order to be compatible? Do I need to backoff to DECNET Phase IV for compatibility? The Answer is : Terminal Servers are unrelated to DECnet, typically using LAT or IP protocols for normal operations. Terminal Servers and other devices do use MOP for the initial software download, and MOP is available as part of DECnet Phase IV, DECnet-Plus, and (with OpenVMS V6.2 and later) the OpenVMS LANCP utility. Once the MOP download has completed (barring such "unusual" tasks as remote console access or an upline dump), MOP is no longer needed. With OpenVMS V6.2 and later, the OpenVMS Wizard generally recommends the use of LANCP, as this is entirely independent of the DECnet phase and of any DECnet upgrades or changes.
