The Question is: Since we installed VAX VMS 5.5-2 VAXY2K01_U2055 onto some of our legacy systems the backup command no longer seems to take notice of the /SINCE=BACKUP and /BY_OWNER=[uic] qualifiers. Do we require some more patches or is this a bug ? Here is a log of vms commands ignoring the qualifiers :- $ dir /date=(cre,mod,bac)/owner *.txt Directory MDISK:[SCTS2] BILL.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:26:01.77 17-SEP-1999 13:26:02.61 <No backup recorded> [SERCK,SCTS2] CLIVE.TXT;3 17-SEP-1999 13:25:14.05 17-SEP-1999 13:25:14.81 <No backup recorded> [SERCK,SCTS2] CLIVE.TXT;2 17-SEP-1999 13:25:10.81 17-SEP-1999 13:26:52.92 <No backup recorded> [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] CLIVE.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:25:06.78 17-SEP-1999 13:26:49.17 <No backup recorded> [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] FRED.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:25:45.83 17-SEP-1999 13:27:55.70 <No backup recorded> [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] Total of 5 files. $ backup/rec/since=backup *.txt/by_owner=[serck,scts_arch] clive.bck/save /log %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]BILL.TXT;1 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]CLIVE.TXT;3 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]CLIVE.TXT;2 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]CLIVE.TXT;1 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]FRED.TXT;1 %BACKUP-I-STARTRECORD, starting backup date recording pass $ reca dir $ dir /date=(cre,mod,bac)/owner *.txt Directory MDISK:[SCTS2] BILL.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:26:01.77 17-SEP-1999 13:26:02.61 17-SEP-1999 13:31:36.99 [SERCK,SCTS2] CLIVE.TXT;3 17-SEP-1999 13:25:14.05 17-SEP-1999 13:25:14.81 17-SEP-1999 13:31:36.99 [SERCK,SCTS2] CLIVE.TXT;2 17-SEP-1999 13:25:10.81 17-SEP-1999 13:26:52.92 17-SEP-1999 13:31:36.99 [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] CLIVE.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:25:06.78 17-SEP-1999 13:26:49.17 17-SEP-1999 13:31:36.99 [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] FRED.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:25:45.83 17-SEP-1999 13:27:55.70 17-SEP-1999 13:31:36.99 [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] Total of 5 files. $ reca backup $ backup/rec/since=backup *.txt/by_owner=[serck,scts_arch] clive.bck/save /log %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]BILL.TXT;1 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]CLIVE.TXT;3 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]CLIVE.TXT;2 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]CLIVE.TXT;1 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied MDISK:[SCTS2]FRED.TXT;1 %BACKUP-I-STARTRECORD, starting backup date recording pass $ reca dir $ dir /date=(cre,mod,bac)/owner *.txt Directory MDISK:[SCTS2] BILL.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:26:01.77 17-SEP-1999 13:26:02.61 17-SEP-1999 13:32:08.63 [SERCK,SCTS2] CLIVE.TXT;3 17-SEP-1999 13:25:14.05 17-SEP-1999 13:25:14.81 17-SEP-1999 13:32:08.63 [SERCK,SCTS2] CLIVE.TXT;2 17-SEP-1999 13:25:10.81 17-SEP-1999 13:26:52.92 17-SEP-1999 13:32:08.63 [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] CLIVE.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:25:06.78 17-SEP-1999 13:26:49.17 17-SEP-1999 13:32:08.63 [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] FRED.TXT;1 17-SEP-1999 13:25:45.83 17-SEP-1999 13:27:55.70 17-SEP-1999 13:32:08.63 [SERCK,SCTS_ARCH] Total of 5 files. $ log Thank you Clive Middleton The Answer is : Please apply the currently-available BACKUP ECO KIT. Please see other discussions of the use of the "/SINCE" qualifier: please see topics 1130, 1411, and 3026. In particular, realize that BACKUP is now more cautious, as cases were found where the old behaviour did not permit an incremental restoration -- in particular, please check the BACKUP date of the parent directory. Then please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center.
