The Question is: I'm running a microvax 3100-90. I have RZ26 disk drives. When I sh dev d, my error counts are increasing slowly. How do I find out what is causing these errors and what the errors are? The Answer is : The usual approach to determine details of the error(s) being logged is via the ANALYZE/ERROR or (on recent OpenVMS releases) the installation of the DECevent or Compaq Analyzer kit and the use of the DIAGNOSE command. A disk read access will not replace any bad block(s) reported, though a write access to the bad block(s) will generally trigger the bad block replacement operation. This could be a problem with the disk (eg: bad block), with the SCSI bus (eg: termination, too long, etc), with one or more mis-set SCSI bus device addresses, or with some other device on the SCSI bus.
