StorageWorks RAID Reconfiguration?

The Question is:

 
Can I re-arrange 8 JBOD drives in 8 drive groups into 8 JBOD drives in 2
drive groups without having to unload and reload the drives from tape?
 
These 8 drives represent everything currently on the raid controller. Any
procedure like failing the drives, deleting and rebuilding the groups, then
marking then optimal would be appreciated. (I don't know how to re-create
groups and logicals for drives
in the "fld" state instead of the "rdy" state.) I cannot add more drives to
this controller till I solve this problem which I inherited.

  assistance with StorageWorks RAID controller questions,
  and for any configuration and data transfer requirements.
  Specific information on the controller involved will likely
  be required, as well as the setting of the "transportable"
