The Question is: We are adding an NT segment to a running VAX without TCP/IP support. Do we need Pathworks to connect/communicate with VAX's for VAXmail and VAX owned printers? Are there other solutions for a short term. We are using WRQ Reflections for an emulation soft ware. Running Patworks slows our system down considerably. The Answer is : You will want to install TCP/IP Services or similar IP package. Packages such as TCP/IP Services provide SMTP mail interoperation, POP3 remote mail access, as well as LPR/LPD printing support. Microsoft and Compaq OpenVMS operating systems can coexist in an IP network. Packages such as Advanced Server (PATHWORKS) and SAMBA provide SMB-level operations and related, permitting OpenVMS systems to operate within Microsoft-defined networks and protocols.
