The Question is: Do you know what Rock Ridge is? If I make an ISO9660 CD, by definition, it has file names in the 8.3 style (e.g. ABCDEFGH.IJK). If I mount such a CD on VMS, I see directories and files which abide by the 8.3 standard. This is good. If I mount such a CD on some UNIX boxes, I see directories and files which abide by this 8.3 standard. Often, I can throw an option switch which tells UNIX to use "Rock Ridge" extensions in dealing with the 9660 CD. That means that the normal 8.3 9660 f iles are mapped to longer and more stylish UNIX file names. From the UNIX user's point of view, the 8.3 filenames do not exist - he only sees the longer names. This is better. I need to be able to use such CDs along with the longer file names on VMS. I can imagine a simple program which reads the 9660 directory and simply makes a mapping between 9660 8.3 filename and the longer RR filename. Then I could make a .COM on VMS to copy the 8.3 files from CD to their more elaborate filenames on disk. Does such a thing exist? Cheers, Keith Goetz University of Minnesota The Answer is : The OpenVMS ISO 9660 CD-ROM file system does not support the Rock Ridge CD media extensions.
