The Question is: I have been performing a stand alone backup on our DEC system and I have encountered a problem. The backup went without problem on seven of the eight disks. On the last disk, the last disk in this case is $1$dia1, I get the following error messages: %BACKUP-F-ALLOCMEM Error allocating virtual memory -LIB-F-INSVIRMEM Insufficient virtual memory The backup quits at this point. Any assistance that you can provide will be appreciated. The Answer is : The usual resolution of an INSVIRMEM error involves increasing the VIRTUALPAGECNT system parameter and/or the process PGFLQUOTA quota setting. Given that the error has arisen in the standalone BACKUP environment and the process quota is not easily accessable, seriously consider using a standalone BACKUP environment from a more recent OpenVMS VAX release, or (assuming this is some sort of virtual address space leak) rebooting the system with the current environment before the last disk.
