The Question is: I have a system that executes an image backup of the system disks overnight, the same procedure has been used for years. When viewing the log file earlier I noticed that the backup had requested a second tape, but then continued on a minute later, theref ore, not allowing enough time for a new tape to be inserted. Here is the relevant output from the log file: %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied $2$DKC400:[MTHEND_W98]HRRVA1.W98;1 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied $2$DKC400:[MTHEND_W98]HRSBT1.W98;1 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied $2$DKC400:[MTHEND_W98]HRSCE1.W98;1 %BACKUP-S-COPIED, copied $2$DKC400:[MTHEND_W98]HRSCF1.W98;1 %BACKUP-I-RESUME, resuming operation on volume 2 %MOUNT-I-OPRQST, medium is offline %MOUNT-I-OPRQST, Please mount volume $2$D02 in device _ZEUS$MKC500: BACKUP requests: Saveset $2$DKC400.BCK, Volume number 02, write ENABLED %MOUNT-F-BATCHNOOPR, no operator available to service batch request %DATA_BACKUP-I-, Backing up $2$DKC500 ( 2-FEB-2000 05:44:59.97) %MOUNT-I-OPRQST, medium is offline %MOUNT-I-OPRQST, Please mount volume $2$DKC in device _ZEUS$MKC500: BACKUP requests: Saveset $2$DKC500.BCK, Volume number 01, write ENABLED %MOUNT-F-BATCHNOOPR, no operator available to service batch request %SYSTEM-F-DEVNOTMOUNT, device is not mounted %DATA_BACKUP-I-, Finished Backup ( 2-FEB-2000 05:45:00.29) Job TIDY_UP (queue ZEUS_BACKUP, entry 251) started on ZEUS_BACKUP Job TIDY_UP (queue ZEUS_BACKUP, entry 252) pending pending status caused by queue busy state LIVE job terminated at 2-FEB-2000 05:45:01.00 Accounting information: Buffered I/O count: 686768 Peak working set size: 71808 Direct I/O count: 5215361 Peak virtual size: 357760 Page faults: 30686 Mounted volumes: Charged CPU time: 0 00:26:04.82 Elapsed time: 0 04:45:01.00 The Answer is : This looks like a bug, either with OpenVMS or with the particular tape drive involved. Assuming you have applied all current ECO kits applicable to this problem, please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center directly for assistance. Expect to be asked details of the tape device and tape device firmware...
