The Question is: Dear Wizard, I backed up shelved file (on VMS 7.2). I restored the file on an OpenVMS system V7.2 that DOES NOT have an HSM product installed. The original cartridge with the shelved file contents is unusable. If I try to delete a file VMS says it can't delete it beca use it's shelved: %DELETE-W-FILNOTDEL, error deleting DKB400:[BANK.BANK.IZP2]ZRVAR02.DAT;1 -RMS-E-MKD, ACP could not mark file for deletion -SYSTEM-F-SHELVED, file contents shelved (this file is the only file in the directory) I tried to fool the system with $ set file/nodir dkb400:[bank.bank]izp2.dir $ delete dkb400:[bank.bank]izp2.dir; $ anal/disk/repa/conf dkb400: %ANALDISK-I-OPENQUOTA, error opening QUOTA.SYS -SYSTEM-W-NOSUCHFILE, no such file %ANALDISK-W-LOSTHEADER, file (4864,445,1) ZRVAR02.DAT;1 not found in a directory Repair this error (D to delete)? (D, Y or N): d %ANALDISK-W-DELETE, file (4864,445,1) error deleting file -SYSTEM-F-SHELVED, file contents shelved Answering YES puts the file into the SYSLOST directory. What can I do? I would like to delete this file. I tried to patch the INDEXF.SYS file but I don't know its structure. And of course, the INDEXF.SYS file is locked. HELP! Thank you very much for your help. Could you send your answer to my e-mail, please. Or notify me when (if) the answer appears on the web. Saso Tomat System Manager SKB bank Ljubljana,Slovenia,Europe The Answer is : There is presently no way to do this -- short of using HSM -- but the OpenVMS Wizard is aware of plans to provide such a tool in the future. If you wish to pursue this issue, please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center directly.
