The Question is: We currently are running a VAX cluster of 4705A's and I was wondering what devices are these? I've looked in the system hardware guide and can't find anything. Device Device Error Name Status Count PAA0: Online 0 PAB0: Online 1 Should getting an error on PAB0: concern me? I know they are logical....but what do they affect? The Answer is : These PAA0: and PAB0: devices are SCS Cluster port devices provided by the PADRIVER device driver, and these devices are used by the disk and tape class drivers (eg: DUDRIVER and MUDRIVER) to access remote (or served) devices via the SCS protocols. The PADRIVER series port driver is specifically used for the DSSI and CI ports, depending on the hardware present in the local system. Other port drivers include the PEDRIVER for clustering over Ethernet and related interconnects, PUDRIVER for local UDA-class storage controllers, PKDRIVER for SCSI devices, PBDRIVER for the OpenVMS Galaxy shared-memory cluster port driver, and PIDRIVER for certain DSSI port interfaces. Depending on exactly what has precipitated it, an occasional error on these may or may not be a particular concern -- this error might be a transient fault resulting from a cable that was accidently disconnected and then reconnected. It might also be a more severe error. For more specific assistance with this particular error, please see the error log and please directly contact your hardware support organization. Ensure that all disk and all tape device names are unique within each allocation class, and ensure that the VOTES and EXPECTED_VOTES and ALLOCLASS and TAPE_ALLOCLASS settings -- as welll as the disk and tape allocation class settings that are set in the HSC, HSJ, or DSSI ISE storage controllers -- are all set correctly. Please see OpenVMS FAQ sections MGMT10 and MGMT13 for additional details, as well as the OpenVMS documentation.
