BACKUP reports medium offline? (MEDOFL)

The Question is:

 
When doing a backup to tape that requires a second tape,
I get a message that says
 
%BACKUP-I-RESUME  resuming operation on volume 2
 
but instead of asking for another tape - it spits out volume 1
and then says
 
%MOUNT-F-MEDOFL,  medium is offline
 
and returns to the system prompt - effectively ruining my backup.
 
How do I do a backup that requires multiple tapes????
 

The Answer is :

 
  Please acquire the current ECO for BACKUP.
 
  Please ensure that an operator is available.
 
  Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center directly.
  Please expect to be asked the current operator status (if
  any operators are enabled), the exact BACKUP command used,
  and the details and the firmware revision of the particular
