ECOs? Patches? Remedial Kits?

Where is documentation on installing remedial kits/ECOs/patches?
Are these three terms interchangeable?

The Answer is :

 
  OpenVMS Alpha ECO kits use PCSI starting with V7.1-2 and later.
 
  Earlier OpenVMS Alpha versions and all OpenVMS VAX versions use
  VMSINSTAL-based ECO kits.
 
  The terms are largely interchangeable.
 
  Kit installation instructions are included in the ECO Cover Letter
  (file extension is CVRLET_TXT), part of the documentation typically
  available with each ECO kit.
 
  For examples of ECO Cover Letters for OpenVMS Alpha V7.2-1, please

  This particular URL area contains kits, cover letters and a variety of
