The Question is: Fibrechannel in an open SAN I know that the only storage supported in a compaq SAN is the compaq storage. But I have done some testings trying to connect to a HDS storage device and would appriciate if you could answer to the problem that I see below?? Current config of HDS 7700E and OpenVMS test environment AlphaServer 1200 5/533 4 MB Alphaserver 1000A 5/500 533 MHz 2 CPU:s 1 CPU 1 GB memory 512 MB memory 1 disk 4 GB 1 disk 9 GB 1 KZPBA-CB UWD SCSI 1 KZPBA-CB UWD SCSI 1 KGPSA-BC HBA optic 1 KGPSA-BC HBA optic Both servers running OpenVMS 7.2-1 with patches VMS721_PCSI, VMS721_UPDATE , VMS721_FIBRECHAN_V0300 I can see my LUN's at the P00>>> with the wwidmgr command, but when I boot the OpenVMS system I can't see any dga disks. This I think is due to the unique unit ID's that are setup in the HSG and can't be setup in the 7700E. But I would appriciate if that could be confirmed and I would also like to know if there are any plans for making the VMS environment to be included in an open SAN configuration. The OpenVMS Wizard is not in a position to assist with the integration
and testing of third-party devices. In the experience of the OpenVMS
Wizard, this task can range from simple and quick to extremely difficult
and time-consuming, with resolutions ranging from the simple (no changes
required) to massive (and potentially incompatible) changes to the device
itself and/or to OpenVMS. The effort that is involved in simply verifying
correct operation across a variety of configurations -- a testing effort
that is involved in establishing a particular device as being supported
-- is non-trivial.
In this case, there are clearly at least some changes that will be
required to the Fibre Channel device or to the local Fibre Channel
device configuration, or to OpenVMS itself. While the world-wide
identifier (WWID) is globally unique, OpenVMS also requires that the
Fibre Channel subsystem (usually the HSG) provide it with a user-assigned
unit ID value for the device, with the value typically established and
maintained via the HSG console and the wwidmgr console tool. This value
provides the OpenVMS unit number.
