HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is: We have a Microvax cluster of 3100 model 90's and our software (we are told) will not run on Alpha,s. Is it possible to bring our existing software across to an Alpha cluster and it run without any modifications to the software? Could you explain "porting"? It has been suggested to us that porting would be a solution. Look forward to hearing from you and thankyou in anticipation. Roy The Answer is : OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha platforms have a high-level of source code compatibility, but these platforms have different object and executable code. In other words, you can generally rebuild (recompile and relink) correctly-written OpenVMS VAX application code for use on OpenVMS Alpha but you cannot transfer over and use VAX binaries on an Alpha system.
