Reason behind ACCOUNTNG.DAT filename?

The Question is:

 
Why is the i missing from the file name ACCOUTNG.DAT.
 
It has always struck me as odd

The Answer is :

 
  Filenames such as ACCOUNTNG.DAT and SYSHUTDWN.COM date back to a time
  when the ODS-2 file structure filename was limited to nine characters
  and the extension to three; this was prior to the release of (as it was
  then known) VAX/VMS V4.0.
