The Question is: We are printing from a Compaq Qorkstation 500 au with OVMS to a HP Laserjet 8100 DN via LPR (Postscript). It was noted that the print jobs were not printed in the same order as they were generated by the software. How can we get the printouts in the same order as they were send to the print queue? Thank you. The Answer is : The OpenVMS Wizard will assume the system is using TCP/IP Services V5.0A with ECO or V5.1. Is the print queue itself configured to schedule the print jobs by size? (See the /SCHEDULE qualifier.) Also check the particular printer configuration, as well as checking for problems and restarts with entries. Also check for a user that is using the /PRIORITY qualifier on the print job submission. There is a known case where transmission errors can cause the print job to be requeued at the end of the queue -- requeued out of order. (No current workaround exists for this, short of a single-threaded print queue -- an exceedingly ugly workaround, the OpenVMS Wizard might add.) If the above suggestions do not point to the problem (and if the TCP/IP package in use is Compaq TCP/IP Services), please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center, as additional details will be required. If you are using a a different TCP/IP stack on your OpenVMS Alpha V7.2-1 system, please contact the vendor of the package.
