The Question is: Hi, I have just installed a Compaq NC3123 network card into an old Digital Workstation 500/333. I had previously applied DEC-AXPVMS-VMS712_UPDATE03-4.PCSI to the machine prior to the hardware install. The machine powered up fine and connected to the cluster by the new network card (device "EIA0:") with full access to disks served by other nodes. However I am unable to configure UCX for the new interface. The installed UCX is 4.2_2-21 (I have applied UCX 4.2_2 ECO 4 with no success). I have this nasty feeling that I have overlooked something really obvious but can not put my finger on it. I am about to attempt to disable the old DE435 network interface in the vain hope that this fixes the problem but somehow I doubt it... David Campbell The Answer is : You have mixed references to V7.2-1 and V7.1-2. The V4.2 version of TCP/IP Services is not supported on V7.2 and later versions of OpenVMS, you must use TCP/IP Services V5.0 or later on OpenVMS V7.2 and later and you should use V5.0 on OpenVMS V7.1 and later, with TCP/IP Services V5.0A and V5.1 (with ECO) or later being prefered in both cases. In the case of an unrecognized controller, you can add the controller to the older configuration or you can upgrade to a version that has knowledge of the controller. If you wish to add knowledge of a newer controller (or a controller otherwise not known to TCP/IP Services) into an older release, please see the chapter on configuring network interfaces -- and specifically the section on configuring network controllers -- included in the TCP/IP Services Management manual. Specifically, you will need to define the communications controller to TCP/IP Services.
