The Question is: In the OpenVMS base OS direction .ppt file, it notes: In early 2002, OpenVMS will support the new Smart-Array backplane RAID solution being supported by AlphaServers (Ramanujan). I'm just curious: is this controller the 52xx controller I know and love in my ML servers, the KZPCC, or a yet-to-be-released controller perhaps following the 52xx series? (I'm curious because there's a real hole is the Alpha line re: VMS without a high-performance backplane RAID controller. The 5204 has been a godsend in my ML530 running Win2K!) thanks The Answer is : Backplane RAID does not particularly lend itself to shared-resources nor multi-site clustering, features that are not commonly found on and not commonly used on other platforms -- accordingly, OpenVMS support presently typically targets host-based and bus-based RAID. The "Ramanujan" project resulted in the KZPDC series backplane RAID controller, with driver support in OpenVMS V7.3-1 and later.
