Reading EBCDIC (IBM) magnetic tape media?

The Question is:

 
We are migrating from a vax machine to an alpha, and for one of the command
 procedures on the VAX there is a program called MAG used to access a mounted
 EBCDIC tape on a ta78 drive. This program does not seem to exist for the
 alpha, and I was wondering if
 there was a replacement.
