The Question is: We have TCPIP version 5.1 with ECO patch 1 running on a variety of OpenVMS 7.2-1H1 Alphas. When using Telnet to connect to a remote port on another Alpha, there doesn't seem to be any way to get the characters you are typing echoed back to the screen. The only character that is echoed is the termination character. Previously, we were running UCX v4.2, which had no problem echoing the characters back. I have tried tweaking as many config parameters as possible, but without any success. Is there any way rectifying this problem, so you can see what you're typing in the Telnet connection? The Answer is : Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center, as details of the local TCP/IP Services configuration and details of the remote host will be required. Also required will likely be the contents of the TTY_DEFCHAR*-related system parameters and the terminal setting from the TNA0: device, as well as the setting of the SET ECHO option at the telnet utility prompt. Potentially also of interest will be a protocol trace, particularly one showing the echo negotiations. With DECnet CTERM and with local OpenVMS sessions, echo is performed locally. With telnet, echo is performed by the remote system.
