The Question is: I have a windows 2000 Server, some Linux servers and a VMS server. I wanted to connect all of them using NFS. I purchased Services for Unix (2000 version), and installed this on the Windwos 2000 server. Got NFS shares up and running and connected ok. Howe ver, when i map to the share and try and create a file on the VMS server (via gateway NFS) i get an error saying the filename is too long. Before i even create the file. Also filenames can come up with the number 20 instead of a space. Is this related to long filenames in wondows. How can i fix the VMS server so it will accept long filenames via NFS. Any help would be much appreciated. Jason The Answer is : OpenVMS Alpha V7.2 and later have file system support for longer filenames and non-alphanumeric (and $ and _) characters in filenames, with support for this capability expected to be added in a future release of TCP/IP Services (after V5.1). This OpenVMS file system utilizes what is known as the ODS5 file system, and this capability is specifically known as the Extended File Specification (EFS) support. That said, TCP/IP Services can provide support for longer and non-ODS2 filenames using its UNIX Container File capabilities on existing releases.
