The Question is:
I have just installed a DE500 on an Alphastation 500/400 running OpenVMS v7.1-2.
The ethernet card is recognised by the system as EWB0.
$ sh dev ewb0/ful

However when I tried to disable DECNET on the on-board ethernet card (EWA0) and
define line and circuit on EWB-0 using NCP, it give me the error:

I tried reboot the system with the network connected to the new ethernet card
(DE500). VMS cluster would use the new EWB0 connection for cluster formation
with no problem but DECNET still failed to startup using EWB0.
Have I missed configure sonething?
We would like to use the network using the new card only and would not mind to
remove EWA0 completely if possible...

The Answer is : Assuming this is a DECnet Phase IV system (as would be implied by your use of NCP), re-run NETCONFIG.COM. If this is a DECnet-Plus system, re-run NET$CONFIGURE.COM. You cannot run DECnet Phase IV on multiple NICs, should multiple NICs be connected to the same non-bridged, non-switched, non-routed segment. (If this configuration should arise, you will receive the IVADDR invalid media address error when DECnet starts on the second and again on any subsequent controllers connected to the segment.)
