The Question is:
I want to use Sony 125P DDS-3 Tapes on my TLZ10 drive. If I use a brand new
tape and use the following commands
$ INIT/MEDIA=COMPACT MKA500: TEST
$ MOUNT/FOR/media=compact mka500:
$ backup/media=compact/ignor=label dka100:[000000...] mka500:
and look with
ABF008/81> show dev mka500/full
Magtape ABF008$MKA500:, device type DEC TLZ10, is online, allocated, deallocate
on dismount, mounted foreign, record-oriented device, file-oriented device,
error logging is enabled, device is busy, controller supports compaction
(compaction enabled), device supports fastskip.

it shows Density DDS2! What must I do to use DDS3 density?

The Answer is : A potentially a similar problem was seen with the Compaq SDT-10000 DDS4 drive, and involved a requirement for a new MKDRIVER in V7.2-1. Your problem may or may not be related. Please see the OpenVMS FAQ, and specifically please the section on third-party hardware.
