Undocumented Commands? (CHECKSUM)

The Question is:

 
How is the checksum command used on OpenVMS? I can tell the command is there,
 since if I type 'checksum' at the dcl prompt I am asked for a filename.
 However, if I supply one, no output is displayed and I am simply returned to a
 prompt. There is no help f
ile for this command. Please explain how it is used. Thanks.
