BACKUP and write-locked system disk?

The Question is:

 
I am running an Alphaserver 1200, with the system disk configured as a JBOD (2
 disks).  When I boot backup from the cd, and mount the system disk, I can't
 use the /record qualifier as the disk is write protected.  How do I enable the
  record feature?

The Answer is :

 
  The OpenVMS Wizard would expect this to operate, though the OpenVMS
  Wizard would also use a newer version of the standalone environment.
 
  Unfortunately, "JBOD" provides insufficient configuration details.
  You will want to contact the Compaq Customer Support Center directly,
  as details of the system disk storage configuration (device types,
  storage controller, configuration, MOUNT and BACKUP command, error
  messages) -- details that will be necessary to determine the cause
  of and to then help you resolve the failure -- will be required here.
