Null print symbiont? (Dummy printer queue)

» close window

The Question is:

How du you set up a dummy printer ip-queue?
The queue is defined with: /PROCESSOR=UCX$TELNETSYM
/on="node:9999" where portnumber 9999 is not defined at all. Printing on this
queue results in lots of tcpip errors and remaining entries.

How do I define a real dummy ip-portnumber??

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard is unfamiliar with the general use of a dummy IP host
and/or port specification in printing, and additional background on the
  application requirements would be useful.

If you simply wish a null print symbiont, the OpenVMS Wizard would use
one of the available (Freeware) null print symbiont tools. These do
not use a remote communications mechanism, as this is unnecesssary.

If you wish to use IP and the telnet symbiont for printing, then the
OpenVMS Wizard would expect that a valid IP host and port specification
will be required and would expect to see errors when an incorrect target
  specification is provided.

UCX$TELNETSYM is the name associated with the telnet symbiont on TCP/IP
Services versions prior to V5.0. With V5.0 and later, the symbiont name
is TCPIP$TELNETSYM, and use of this (new) name is recommended. Use of
TCP/IP Services V5.1 and associated ECO -- the current version as of this
writing in August 2001 -- is recommended.
