The Question is: Hi Wizard, Our network is split between three sites with IP only routers. Consequently DECnet Phase IV is unusable without buying expensive licenses and splitting into areas etc. I would like to disable the use of DECnet Phase IV entirely and rely solely on DECnet Phase V running over IP. I have tried to restrict directory naming services to DOMAIN only as part of doing this. However, I receive the following error message from NET$CONFIGURE * Enter the directory services to use on the system [LOCAL,DOMAIN] : domain %NET$CONFIGURE-W-NODOMAINPRIMARY, Domain is not currently allowed as a primary directory service How can I restrict traffic to DECnet V and disable the use of local: namespace? I thought I should merely disable NSP transport, run OSI over IP and disable and clear the local:. namespace. Am I confused or are there some restrictions in place to prevent me doing this? Regards Edwin Thornber The Answer is : You will want to use LOCAL, DOMAIN for the host name resolution. You do not particularly need to put anything IN the local namespace, save for the hosts you wish to reach even when DNS is unavailable. You can choose to disable local DECnet circuits, but this is not particularly necessary -- with only IP routers available, only the IP-based DECnet-Plus paths will be available between the sites.
