The Question is: Backup has problems with restoring ACLs on the top level directories (i.e. residing in the MFD) as of VMS V5.5 or so. The workaround of using BACKUP [000000...]*.*;* has the problem of restoring files to the incorrect directories. Have either or both of these problems been resolved yet? If not, are there plans to resolve them or an explicit work-around to both? Thanks for your help. The Answer is : The OpenVMS Wizard is not familiar with the cited ACL behaviour, though would strongly encourage the use of /IMAGE/[NO]ALIAS for whole-disk BACKUPs (regardless). As the BACKUP syntax is clearly rather arcane, the examples in the BACKUP chapter should be followed for full and for incremental BACKUP operations. Examples of the specific BACKUP command(s), the particular ACLs involved, the system(s) and versions in use, and the results of the BACKUP would be useful.
