The Question is: Where can I get information on the switch settings for a CXA16 q-bus card? I have a Microvax 3800 that I would like to put the card in. The Answer is : The available hardware information is referenced in the OpenVMS FAQ. You will specifically want to review existing discussions of correctly determining and setting the CSR and interrupt vector -- you must read and understand the information included in topics (407), (1149), (1866) and (3232). You must follow the procedures described in the topics (407), (1149), (1866) and (3232) to correctly determine the settings for your particular Q-bus configuration. Failure to determine the correct CSR and vector settings on all Q-bus modules -- when adding or removing any Q-bus controllers -- can result in system instability, system crashes, and system hangs. The following are two potential CSR and vector settings for the CXY08 and CXA16 series serial line terminal controller devices, and these may or may not be the correct settings for your configuration. CSR bits 3-4-5, 6-7-8 and 9-10-+ encode the low three octal digits of the CSR -- bit 2 encodes a six in the fourth digit of the CSR when zero and a seven when set, and an eleventh bit position (+) is assumed present and assumed to be zero. Vector bits 3-4-5 and 6-7-8 encode the top two digits of the vector, the least significant digit is assumed to be zero and thus not encoded. For the CXY08 and CXA16, CSR bit 1 defines the DHU vs DHV emulation. With the module handle held away from you, the CSR switchpack is located to the left.
