The Question is: I am copying (pulling) files from the a vms disk to a cdrw drive on a winnt box. when I try to move file back to the vms box the file/record attributes are incorrect. I have tryed convert/fdl and it tell me that the record is too short. what do you suggest for getting a valid rmu/backup file from cdrom to vax. The Answer is : Microsoft Windows NT and various other platforms do not particularly preserve OpenVMS file attributes, meaning that you must use tools that explicitly provide this capability to preserve the attributes, or you must be prepared to determine the specifics of the corruption(s) and the necessary repair(s). The OpenVMS FAQ sections on writing recordable CD media (CD-R) on OpenVMS and on repairing corrupt BACKUP savesets will be of interest. The OpenVMS Wizard would strongly discourage the use of CD-R on other platforms to write OpenVMS-format files and media, as writing the disks directly is both easier and simpler. Details and (Freeware) packages are listed in the OpenVMS FAQ, as is a commercial (supported) package. For specific information on Oracle Rdb RMU and on RMU file format requirements, please contact the Oracle Rdb support organization.
