The Question is: Hello! I've a Alpha Server 4100 with OpenVMS 7.3 installed. Can I do a backup/image of the system disk and restore it on a differen machine (for example a ES45) without have performance problem ? Someone said me OpenVms remember old installation system machine !!. Best regards Guerri Stefano The Answer is : OpenVMS includes all drivers and support for all supported platforms. That said, site-specific configuration data files can include references to physical devices, meaning that the contents of the site-specific startup or (for instance) the network configuration database or the host name may (will?) have to be re-established on the new host. (For some of the files which can contain a node name string, please see the OpenVMS FAQ.) Put another way, yes, this can be done -- OpenVMS will very likely boot at least minimally, and can be reconfigured and AUTOGEN can be run from there. Reinstallation of OpenVMS from a distribution is another approach, as the installation will determine the local hardware configuration and will also then prompt you for the needed site-specific configuration details.
