The Question is: I am attempting to install a larger system HD. When I power up and do a 'show config' from the console, the new drive shows up as 'dka0.0.0.9.0 SEAGATE ST19171N CLA'. A 'user/data' hard drive that I've been using in the system all along is also a Seagate ST19171N and is reported as 'dka100.1.0.9.0 SEAGATE ST19171N'. A 'show dev' reports the following for dka0 : 'dka0.0.0.9.0 dka0 SEAGATE ST19171N CLAR09 3506'. When I boot the OpenVMS V7.2-2 System CD to do a fresh installation I eventually get an 'invalid media format' error using dka0 as the destination device. I get the same message when I try to initialize d ka0 directly. Any ideas ?? If the problem is that I did not purchase the hard drive from Compaq, could you give me a Compaq model/part # for the same or similar hard drive. Thanks, Craig The Answer is : Please see the OpenVMS FAQ, specifically the section on using large disk drives. In particular, please consider V7.2-2, and please apply current ECO kits. As for supported devices, please see the OpenVMS Software Product Description (SPD) document referenced in the FAQ, and please see the StorageWorks website and particularly the AlphaServer hardware compatibility information that is available at the AlphaServer website.
