The Question is: Hello, We have one Alphaserver4100 5/533 System with OVMS 7.2-1. DecWindow Console hangs after 2-3 days. After reboot it becomes OK. Steps taken to resolve the problem: a) Earlier System was OVMS 7.1-2, which later was upgraded to 7.2-1, still problem exists. b) Replaced Elsa Gloria controller in place of S3 Trio Controller. Installed Patches for OVMS a) VMS721_UPDATE-V0300 b) VMS721_PCSI-V0100 c) VMS721_GRAPHICS-V0500 Again Console hanging problem is observed after 7 days. Thanks and regards. Vimal Upreti The Answer is : There is insufficient information on the hang for a particular response. Without details of the hang, there can be no assurrance that this is OpenVMS, DECwindows, or other software. This could also be a resource starvation or other system configuration problem (or resource leak in other privileged-mode code). Without details, even system or controller hardware problems cannot be ruled out. Please contact the support center directly. Expect to be asked for a copy of a forced crashdump when the hang occurs. Also expect to be asked to install all mandatory ECO kits for OpenVMS V7.2-1 and for the version of DECwindows Motif that is in use here, and potentially to be asked to upgrade to an OpenVMS release with current support. (Support for OpenVMS V7.2-1 has ended.) Also expect to be asked for any relevent contents found in the DECwindows log files, and for details of the OpenVMS environment -- assuming that the OpenVMS system is still in operation when the display hangs. For the supported releases and support schedules and other information related to supported versions, please search for "PVS" in the FAQ. For a search engine that can return the list of mandatory ECO kits, please see the search engine referenced in the discussion of ECO (patch) kits in the FAQ.
