The Question is: We have a problem with TCP/IP and dual NIC's. Both NIC's are configured with their own unique fixed IP address and everything works correctly. But if one of the NIC's cables is disconnected, both NIC's stop working with TCP/IP. The remaining NIC still work in the VMS cluster, but Telnet is no longer possible to this NIC, and it will not answer a PING. As soon as the cable is reconnected to the other NIC, both NIC's can be pinged and Telnet is again possible. We have this problem on all our DS10 Alpha Servers running OpenVMS 7.3 with all new patches installed and the newest TCP/IP 5.1, and also on a test Alpha Station 255 running OpenVMS 7.3-1 and TCP/IP 5.3 Is this normal behavior with TCP/IP under OpenVMS? Can we do anything to prevent this from happening? Best regards The Answer is : This would appear to be either a configuration problem or a bug. Please contact the support center, as details of the stoppage and of the IP and DNS configuration will be required.
