HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is: We have an Alpha 800 Server which will not boot, due to zero available disk space. After booting it in single user mode off the install CD. I determined that the accountng.dat file had grown to over 8,000,000 blocks. Can I safely delete this file? and w ill it recreate itself once the server is rebooted upon? The Answer is : You can safely delete the system accounting file. Various organizations will use a periodic batch job (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) or will use a system reboot to reset the accounting, operator, auditing, and related log files. The OpenVMS Wizard would recommend not using a version-based purge, but would encourage a date-based purge -- this so that a run-away deletion operation or a series of reboots do not erase recent and useful system data.
