The Question is: We are running a two-site Alpha GS160 cluster. The nodes are running Openvms V7.2-1h1 and TCPIP Services V5.1-ECO4. Each node has three ethernet cards with 2 nics each, so 6 interface are available. We're using 1 interface on two cards. Each interface IE 0 en IE2 has its own ip-address. Also in the DNS the nodes has a definition of the two ip-address. We want to use 1 TCPIP alias for the whole cluster. In the documentation set Compaq TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Management we've read that you can set up a ARP-based cluster by defining a cluster adress in each interface and by defining the aliasname and its address in the local host file. Question: Is it possible to define this clusteralias and ipaddress also in our DNS. To use this for our users to use telnet with this alias to connect to the cluster. If so, 1) What's the role of the /CLUSTER qualifier within the SET Communication command. 2) What's happens if one of the nodes is down. The Answer is : Details of the different forms of cluster alias mechanisms supported within the TCP/IP Services product are available in the TCP/IP Services management documentation. Metric server and load broker would be the obvious likely choice here.
