The Question is: Hello I would like to know how to build a three node cluster with three VAX 4000 Model 108 under VMS 5.5-2h4. So the question could be : is the KFDDA-BB able to be daisy chain ? and what part number do I need to do this ? (Step 3-storage of the QuickSpec says that) Single system support two system DSSI VMS Cluster Does that means that I can build a three node DSSI cluster +---------------+ ! Vax 4000 M108 ! ! ! ! The Answer is : The OpenVMS Wizard cannot recommend that a storage configuration this old be used -- your OpenVMS VAX version is a decade old, and the DSSI storage hardware is likely equivalently ancient. The KFDDA-A (dual DSSI) and KFDDA-B (single-bus) controller can be configured as a middle node on a DSSI bus. Each end of the DSSI bus must be terminated; do not allow any intervening DSSI controller(s) to terminate the DSSI bus. This particular configuration is known as a four-enclosure or quad configuration. So long as you have these four enclosures, you should be within the DSSI cabling limits assuming uniform use of nine-foot or shorter DSSI cables throughout. You will need to establish unique DSSI unit numbers for each controller and each device on a DSSI bus. All DSSI hardware availability was retired many years ago. The OpenVMS FAQ has related information on DSSI configurations.
