The Question is: We have a VMS system running VMS 7.2-1 and the LPD Daemon seems to be constantly firing up TCPIP$LP_BG8573 ( for example ) processes with all of the attendent page faults. Can I limit this in anyway? I am guessing that this is servicing print requests from UNIX systems and don't think that it would cause any harm to slow the throughput down a bit! Regards in advance. The Answer is : You could prevent users from printing, by removing the queues or such. If the local system configuration and particularly the local system processor hardware and memory hardware are configured such that the commencement of a print job is noticable, it would appear that the local system environment has capacity problems. Put another way, please find and remove the system capacity limits -- the system(s) in question are likely not configured with sufficient system memory for current applications. As a workaround, you could reset the base priority for the queue(s).
