The Question is: When running Analyze/Disk we get lots of ANALDISK-W-MULTALLOC messages. The repair option does not clear the errors. Can you tell me what the errors are and if it is pointing towards a disk failure? %ANALDISK-W-MULTALLOC, file (404,8,1) [INTEGRATION.ARCHIVAGE_GET]2003_03_21_08H_12H.GET;1 multiply allocated blocks VBN 163 to 180 LBN 107172 to 107189, RVN 1 %ANALDISK-W-MULTALLOC, file (407,29156,1) [SYSLOST]2001_05_31_08H_12H.GET;2 multiply allocated blocks VBN 1 to 18 LBN 107172 to 107189, RVN 1 %ANALDISK-W-MULTALLOC, file (408,29157,1) [SYSLOST]2001_05_31_12H_16H.GET;1 multiply allocated blocks VBN 1 to 18 LBN 111150 to 111167, RVN 1 %ANALDISK-W-MULTALLOC, file (588,9,1) [INTEGRATION.OUT]0003_LES_ANOMALIES.DAT;1 multiply allocated blocks VBN 955 to 972 LBN 111150 to 111167, RVN 1 The Answer is : Please apply available mandatory ECO kits for your OpenVMS Alpha version, and please consider the attached error message and recovery information. These allocation errors can be caused by software or hardware problems. MULTALLOC, file ('file-id') 'file-name' multiply allocated blocks VBN 'n' to 'n' LBN 'n' to 'n', RVN 'n' Facility: ANALDISK, Analyze/Disk_Structure Utility Explanation: The specified logical blocks on the specified relative volume were allocated to more than one file. These blocks are the specified virtual blocks of the specified file. User Action: Examine all the multiply allocated blocks messages to determine the files involved in each. Then, without allowing other file activity, perform the following functions: o Copy all but one file involved in each instance to a new version. o Delete the version of each file that is copied containing the multiple allocation. This action marks blocks free in the storage bit map that are not, in fact, free blocks. o Reenter the ANALYZE/DISK_STRUCTURE command, using the /REPAIR qualifier to correct the storage bitmap. o Examine each file for corruption and reconstruct from backup media as necessary.
