The Question is: I am running openvms 7.2-1 on an alpha ds20e. I am currently running tcpip v5.0a eco3. My problem is when I try to enable smtp through tcpip$config, I get the message "group number 3655 already exists - tcpip requires a unique group number." 3655 does already exist as the tcpip group number from the original installation of tcpip. How can I enable smtp with the current 3655 group number? The Answer is : It would appear that you have encountered a UIC group collision, though details on how this has arisen are entirely unclear. The most obvious and brute-force solution: Remove the existing product version, manually remove any old UCX or TCPIP usernames that might remain in SYSUAF, and then re-install and reconfigure. (The version V5.0A is old and no longer supported -- V5.3 is the current release as of this writing, with a subsequent release in testing. Please also ensure you have the current ECO installed for whatever version is in use, as well) The OpenVMS Wizard will assume you are aware that your OpenVMS Alpha version is also down-revision.
