HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is: I am looking for confirmation of how the ERRLOG process behaves when it terminates abnormally, such as the system disk filling up so you can not write to errlog.sys. My understanding is that the process sends a mail to the system account with the text body, "Something marvellous has happened" or perhaps "something wonderful has happened". I used to work in the UK OpenVMS support office (UVO) some years ago and this happened to a customer. I am asking this now as some one on usenet is querying this behaviour, neither of us can find a cite on the Net. TIA The Answer is : The usual subject line for the mail message triggered by an ERRFMT (error formatter) failure is: "ERRFMT - I bring you bad news..." Please see the OpenVMS System Manager's Manual, and specifically the sections around "Using the Error Formatter" and "Using ERRFMT to Send Mail". Specifically, please see the logical names ERRFMT$_SEND_TO and ERRFMT$_SEND_MAIL. Please ensure the OpenVMS system has the current ECOs and a recent (and supported) OpenVMS version loaded, of course.
