The Question is: We're almost finished migrating from a VAX 6610 running VMS 7.1 and Multinet to an Alpha DS25 running VMS 7.3-1 and TCPIP Services 5.3. A file download using FTP from the Alpha to a PC takes at least ten times as long as the same operation from the VAX. What settings can be changed to improve the FTP speed of the Alpha? The Answer is : Please contact the support center for assistance, as details on the IP routing configuration, network and ECO level will be required. (The OpenVMS Wizard will assume you have the current ECOs loaded.) Also consider trying another FTP client on the Windows system, or testing with other platforms and other ftp client and ftpd server configurations. Related topics can include (4775), (7249), and possibly others -- though without details, a specific answer is not feasible. (Put another way, if there were a simple knob that would easily and uniformly increase FTP performance for your particular situation, the knob likely would have already been turned for you.) This assumes that the allocation quantities (see TCPIP$FTP_FILE_ALQ logical name) are appropriate, that volume highwater marking is disabled (if appropriate), and that the FTP server process quotas are set appropriately for the activity.
