The Question is: Is there a way to send a compressed file (.ZIP) from the Alpha using VMS Mail to a Windows mailbox? Thanks. Jim The Answer is : See existing discussions of the MIME utility and the SFF mechanism here in the Ask The Wizard area -- your OpenVMS version is, however, sufficiently ancient that it lacks these tools. Accordingly, you might well need to seek out the MPACK and MUNPACK Freeware. Please see the OpenVMS FAQ discussion of MIME and attachments, as well as topics here including (4492), (8678) and (8057). An SMTP program is also available in the support database, seek "Example-C,C++ SMTP Mail Message Sender With MIME File Attachments" using the Natural Language Assistant or other support search tool -- look for AskQ within the OpenVMS FAQ for pointers to the Natural Language Assistant tool. That said, the OpenVMS Wizard would typically use a webserver or an FTP server, and allow the client to download the file -- rather than using mail protocols as a file delivery service.
