Ged's public web server configuration:

2 DL380 G1
1 9GB SCSI
1 IDE drive (40GB / 250GB)
cdrom drive

This system has been running happily for several years. It started out with RHL 6.2 and now it's running kernel 2.4.22 (installed remotely). Now that the 40GB IDE drives are getting full, it's time to change them out with some 250GB IDE drives.

... other quirky steps here ...

We boot from the SCSI drives. We use the SCSI drives exclusively for routine things that thrash the discs like database stuff, mail, etc.

The DL380 has an IDE-RAID interface card; however, we use it as an ordinary IDE interface. We use the IDE drives as online backup and for overflow storage.

The SCSI drives worked right from the beginning and it took a few weeks to figure out what was wrong with the IDE drives which was nothing as it turned out.
