Using MTX and TAR

From Antony Platt (some text has been modified):

I have an older Model 20/40 DLT Library hooked to a ProLiant 2500 doing my backup duties here.

15 Tapes 2 Drives (only has one installed)

The Library is detected as "HP"
It shows 2 separate SCSI ID's (one for the drive, one for the robot arm)
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00
Vendor: Quantum Model: DLT4000 CPQ LDRV Rev: D67F
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 06 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: C5173-4000 Rev: 4.05
Type: Medium Changer ANSI SCSI revision: 02
I use a small program called MTX to control the robotics. Then stir in a spoonful of shell scripting and TAR. This is a workable solution for me.

MTX is very easy to use and understand.
