Solaris 7 Installation Walk Through

This installation was completed on a DL580 using the SA-221
     with a Raid 0 configuration and Smart Start 4.90
Note: ROC was removed.

Boot to SS CD and configure your array
Create your SCU partition remove SS CD

Download the most recent DU from Compaq drivers website
http://www.compaq.com/support/files/Compaq_ProLiant_Servers.html
(Select server type and Solaris, the latest DU is under bundles)
Download the most recent DCA version (11/99 in this case) from Sun's website:
http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/dca_diskettes/

Boot to the DCA
At the first screen of the Solaris Device Configuration Assistant
Press F4_Add Driver

Bus Enumeration screen will come up
Install Supplemental Drivers screen will come up
Insert DU disk 1
Press F2_Continue
Loading Supplemental Driver Information will come up
Continue Supplemental Driver Installation will come up
Insert DU disk 2
Press F2_Continue
Loading Supplemental Driver Information will come up
Continue Supplemental Driver Installation will come up
Insert DU disk 3
Press F2_Continue
Loading Supplemental Driver Information will come up
Continue Supplemental Driver Installation will come up
Insert DU disk 4
Press F2_Continue
Loading Supplemental Driver Information will come up
Continue Supplemental Driver Installation will come up
Press F4_Done

Identified Device Drivers will come up (will list drivers)
Press F2_Continue
Solaris Device Configuration Assistant will come up
Press F2_Continue

Bus Enumeration will come up
You may get a Floppy error. Was checking for possible new Volume.
Press Enter
Insert DCA
Press Enter
Scanning Devices will come up

Press F2_Continue

Loading will appear
Error: Missing Primary Disk will come up
Press F2_Continue

Boot Solaris will come up (prompting for where the kernel is  going to be installed from)
Down arrow, high light CD, press Space Bar to select CD
Insert Solaris Software CD 1 of 2 (do not use the Installation CD)
Press F2_Continue
Loading
Running Driver
(if you do not insert the CD you will get Error: Mount Failed, Insert CD and press Enter)
You will be prompted for 1 Solaris Interactive 2 Custom JumpStart
Press 1 and press enter  (default is 1)

Booting kernel/unix
Configuring devices
(iprb1: no MII link detected)
Press Enter

Select a Language
Select a Locale
The Solaris Installation Program will come up
Press F2_Continue

Kdmconfig - Introduction  (K/D/M options)

Press F2_Continue or F4_Bypass

Solaris Install Console comes up
Identify This System
Enter host name
Click Continue


Network Connectivity (yes or no)
If yes
Primary Network Interface (select one)

Click continue

Enter IP Address
Click Continue


Confirm Information
Click Continue

Name Service
Choose NIS+, NIS, DNS, or None  (chose None)
Click Continue
Confirm Information

System Part of a subnet (yes or no)
If no goes to Time Zone
If yes
Netmask

Timezone
Specify timezone by: Geographic region, Offset from GMT, or Time Zone file
Click Set...
Select Geographic Regions
Click Continue
Date and Time
Click Continue
Confirm Information
Click Continue


Solaris Interactive Installation
Click Continue
Allocate Client Services? (Allocate space for diskless clients and/or AutoClient systems)
Click Continue
Select Languages (English by default)
Click Continue
Select Software (Entire Distribution, Developer System Support,
     End User System Support, Core System Support)
Click Continue


Select Disks
Click Continue

Automatically Layout File System?
Auto Layout or Manual Layout
Click Auto Layout
Automatically Layout File Systems
Create:  /, /opt, /usr, /usr/openwin, /var, swap
Select and Click Continue
File System and Disk Layout
Select Continue or Customize (partition disk and click ok when done)
Click Continue
Mount Remote File System
Click Continue
Profile (shows Installation opt, boot device, regions, software,
     file system and disk options you have selected during the
     preinstallation process)
Click Begin Installation
Select auto reboot
Eject DCA disk, click ok

Installing Solaris Software - Progress will come up
Insert disk 4 of the DU of the disk with the ROC driver
Press Enter
Installation process asked for specific DU disks.
Insert each disk and press Enter.
Additional Update Disks? (select N )

Starting OpenWindows

(server reboots)
Remove Software CD 1 from CD ROM drive

Prompted for Root password, verify
