We have gotten all the kinks out and the list is running smoothly. We do have some list members who have occasional delivery problems etc. The list is not all that active, something fewer than 25 messages per day. For the most part we have used defaults for setting up MX with the exception that we maxed out the queue file. It seems, though, that submissions to the list are being sent out later and later and later. An examination of the queue reveals that the backlog of entries in the queue has grown from about 104 on Monday to 144 on Thursday. All queue entries are "INPROG". The source for all entries is "LOCAL" since we filter messages. We have plenty of bandwidth, the machine is dedicated to the list and is idle. Which parameters should we tweak to get this queue dispatched faster? Hello,

I have recently had a problem whereby = members of=20 our staff are misusing the internal mailing lists to distribute large=20 attachments.  One list contains over a 1000 members.  We use = this list=20 to relay university wide information.  Is there a way to limit the = size of=20 an attachment that goes to the list or maybe even reject or remove the=20 attachment altogether?

I have updated our disclaimers = abou the use of=20 the lists, but someone eventually tries something new.  It usually = is just=20 a result from a lack of knowledge but it does cause temporary havock on=20 available disk space on this mail server.

Any attachments found will be checked against a list of executable attachments. If mapped, a further extension ".txt" will be added, so opening this attachment from outlook will only start the notepad editor (in most cases). This script is mainly created to filter VBS-based attachment, e.g. LOVELETTER et.al. The DCL/Perl-Script needs VMS 7.* and a current Perl installation (I used VMS-Perl 5.6.0). VMS 7.* is needed because of the PIPE command. If anybody is interested in this script, send me a short mail. - Matthias Muth email: Matthias.Muth@bessy.de BESSY GmbH phone: +49 30 6392 2954 Albert-Einstein-Str. 15 fax: +49 30 6392 2990 D-12489 Berlin GERMANY ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 21:53:33 -0700 Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 07:46:41 +0300 From: rakesh@kuc01.kuniv.edu.kw Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com To: MX-List@MadGoat.com CC: MUTH@BESSY.DE, MATHIAS.MUTH@BESSY.DE, rakesh@kuc01.kuniv.edu.kw Message-ID: <009EC526.A08FBDB0.444@kuc01.kuniv.edu.kw> Subject: RE: Filtering MIME Attachments with a Perl Script Dear Muth, Thanks for the excellent news. Can you please send me a copy of your script? From where can I download Perl-5.6.0 for VMS 7.1-1H2 (for Alphaserver 4100)? In past I tried to install Perl-5.4.* etc under VMS but was never able to do it successfully (some messages related to FNCTL during build). Hopefully, Perl-5.6.0 doesn't exhibit such problems? Finally, I could never understand difference between LOCAL Delivery Agent & SITE Delivery agent? Can you please explain under what situations SITE Delivery Agent is used (vs LOCAL Delivery Agent) & what exactly SITE_DELIVER.COM contains to be able to use scripts like yours? Sorry for so many queries.
