Of course, because of the variety of SMTP servers in use, the hodge-podge of delivery error messages that are returned are nearly unreadable by humans, let alone programatically. I would really like to be able to extract a list of the bad addresses that are returned. Has anyone ever developed a deeper understanding of this, or written any code that would help? I would love to get a handle on this so that we can flag the addresses in our database. I've also received "probe" messages from list servers attempting to locate bad addresses -- looks useful. Does any of this apply to MX? No, it's due to the rather primitive matching algorithm that the rewrite rule processing code uses. It traverses the string from right to left, and it does not use a longest-match strategy for filling in the variables. So what's happening is that while it's filling in the value for {x}, it hits the first underscore (between the "r" and "e" when going right-to-left), sees that the next character is not "d", and assumes there is no match. You can work around this by adding another rule for "". -Matt ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 08:56:07 -0700 Message-ID: <5.0.2.1.0.20010416105553.00b067c8@mail.acu.edu> Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 10:55:58 -0500 To: MX-List@MadGoat.com From: Tom Dolan Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com Subject: extracting messages from archive MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Hi Matt et al, I would like to convert the archive files for a few of my mailing lists to Microsoft Access Database. Each message in an archive begins with an "Archive-Date:" header, which you probably won't find in any normal e-mail message, and a line of "=" signs separates each message. Going forward, you might find it easier to add a subscriber to the list that is hooked up to a program run via the SITE agent to add each message to your database as it is posted to the list. -Matt -- Matthew Madison | MadGoat Software | PO Box 556, Santa Cruz, CA 95061 USA madison@madgoat.com http://www.madgoat.com ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 08:40:59 -0700 Message-ID: <5.0.2.1.0.20010417103405.0376d738@mail.acu.edu> Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 10:40:48 -0500 To: MX-List@madgoat.com From: Tom Dolan Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com Subject: RE: extracting messages from archive In-Reply-To: <009FAA98.A4DDA1C9.2@MadGoat.Com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed > > My specific question is how to I tell the beginning and end of a message > >in the archive file? >Each message in an archive begins with an "Archive-Date:" header, which >you probably won't find in any normal e-mail message, and a line of "=" >signs separates each message. Actually I wrote a Visual Basic executable called "ArchiveMail" which logs into a POP3 mailbox, grabs the messages using the W3JMail object, http://www.dimac.net, and puts the message pieces into a Microsoft Access database using ADO. Works with any POP3 mailbox. Write me if you are interested in "ArchiveMail". ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Wed, 18 Apr 2001 16:54:53 -0700 Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com From: "Ray Harwood" To: "MX-List (E-mail)" Subject: MX_LOCAL_ALLOW_LONG_LINES... in v4.2? If the MAIL$ API gives you a way to get the equivalent of the MAIL program's SEND/FOREIGN/TYPE=255 command, and the account that sends the message holds the appropriate identifier (MX_FAKE_RFC822), you can throw in whatever RFC822 headers you want at the beginning of the message you're sending. -Matt -- Matthew Madison | MadGoat Software | PO Box 556, Santa Cruz, CA 95061 USA madison@madgoat.com http://www.madgoat.com ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2001 11:21:22 -0700 Message-ID: <3ADF2A76.8C407010@SMTP.DeltaTel.RU> Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2001 22:12:06 +0400 From: "Ruslan R. There was a bug in V5.1 that caused it to miscalculate free disk space and give errnoeous QUEFULL errors on locally-entered messages. I'd suggest upgrading to V5.1A or (preferably) V5.2. Note, too, that the minimum setting for MX_FLQ_DISK_FREE_RESERVED is 1%, even if you define the logical name as zero. With V5.1A and later, you can use the logical name MX_FLQ_DISK_FREE_ABSOLUTE to specify the reserved disk space in blocks, rather than as a percentage (it, too, must be non-zero). -Matt -- Matthew Madison | MadGoat Software | PO Box 556, Santa Cruz, CA 95061 USA madison@madgoat.com http://www.madgoat.com ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Sat, 28 Apr 2001 15:44:35 -0700 Date: Sat, 28 Apr 2001 17:45:04 -0600 From: system@niuhep.physics.niu.edu Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com To: MX-List@MadGoat.com Message-ID: <009FB393.6BA7FBA0.7@niuhep.physics.niu.edu> Subject: RE: RE: thanks
