If I want to add or remove somebody from a list created under MX, how can I do that without a file being sent to the one added or removed? From the help: DEFINE LIST /ADD_MESSAGE /ADD_MESSAGE=fspec /NOADD_MESSAGE (default) and DEFINE LIST /REMOVE_MESSAGE /REMOVE_MESSAGE=fspec /NOREMOVE_MESSAGE (default) It looks like just doing nothing would send no files at all, but I cannot add or remove people silently, without them getting noticed. I have modified a testlist, saved and resetted MX , with the explicit values /noadd and /noremove but to no success. Indeed you can do it on a per-user basis, and indeed section 3.4 only talks about "control of the text" (not about switching notification on/off per list). But as the online help mentions the /NO[ADD|REMOVE|FORWARD]_MESSAGE qualifiers for DEFINE LIST (and even claims that these are the default), shouldn't they work? cu, Martin ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Thu, 14 Mar 2002 04:13:24 -0800 Message-ID: <5.1.0.14.2.20020314131403.02fa8a18@kthbib.lib.kth.se> Date: Thu, 14 Mar 2002 13:18:59 +0100 To: MX-List@MadGoat.com From: Anders Olsson Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com Subject: Re: add&remove-messages In-Reply-To: <0e2501c1ca9f$42ee9f70$76041c7e@si.com> References: <5.1.0.14.2.20020313142110.02fb7d50@kthbib.lib.kth.se> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable At 09:56 2002-03-13 -0500, you wrote: > >If I want to add or remove somebody from a list created under MX, how can= I > >do that without a file being sent to the one added or removed? > >See Section 3.6.1 in the MLF documentation. OK, That=B4s fine, but I forgot to mention that I=B4m on V5.1-X. I don=B4t= even=20 find the command [NO]NOTIFY in this version. But the helppages at least=20 hinted that you somehow could suppress add- and removemessages in that= version. But that's what was asked: how to do it on a per-user basis. The question was: > If I want to add or remove somebody from a list created > under MX, how can I > do that without a file being sent to the one added or removed? "somebody". That's per-user. >But as the online help mentions >the /NO[ADD|REMOVE|FORWARD]_MESSAGE qualifiers for DEFINE LIST >(and even claims that these are the default), shouldn't they work? The MODIFY LIST command followed by a RESET MLF should work.
