We updated to Compaq TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version V5.1 - ECO 3 a couple of months ago. Now I rebooted some of the satellites again and found that I cannot send Mails from them using VMSmail with SMTP% or MX%. The message is %MAIL-E-ERRACTRNS, error activating transport SMTP %RMS-E-DEV, error in device name or inappropriate device type for operation and %MAIL-E-ERRACTRNS, error activating transport MX %RMS-E-DEV, error in device name or inappropriate device type for operation There have been no essential changes made in the configuration of the cluster (from my point of view) - but something must have changed meanwhile. I can't find differences to other satellites, that haven't been booted yet: same logicals and symbols, DIR MX_MAILSHR, DIR MAIL$PROTOCOL_SMTP and DIR SMTP_MAILSHR show the installed image MX_ROOT:[ALPHA_EXE]MX_MAILSHR.EXE;1 . Does anybody know what "device" is meant or how I could find it out ? -- ,---- Mario Meyer --- mailto:MMeyer@Berlin.PTB.De ----. net . , worker | Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Inst. It occurs when people set up autoreplies like "I=B4m on vacation=20 until...." on their mailclients. I understand the logic that makes these=20 loops happen, but I guess that there must be a way of stopping it. I am=20 myselt member of many lists and every now and then I see these autoreply=20 messages - but I see just one. In my case they create some kind of chaos=20 almost immediately. This is kind of urgent, I will try to see in the documentation mysel but if= =20 anybody knows of an answer, please let me know. By the way, version is MX V5.1-X An example is this list Mailing lists: Name: BIBLINFO Owner: "system@LIB.KTH.SE" Maximum recipients per single message taken from MLF setting.
